How to Wash and Care for Slippers

But how do you clean slippers and care for them so that they retain their appearance and quality for as long as possible? There are many different types of material, such as cotton, wool, leather, suede or sheepskin, each with its own benefits. unpleasant odours. Prolonged contact with feet, perspiration, and heat encourage the growth of bacteria and fungi, which are responsible for unpleasant odours. As with leather, you can use specific suede cleaning sprays on your suede slippers. Use a suede eraser and brush to remove stains and a brush to remove dirt residues and debris.

Slipper drying tips

Avoid putting them in the dryer or near a heat source to prevent animal-skin slippers from warping, shrinking or discolouring after cleaning. Instead, air dry your slippers. You can also stuff them with a balls of newspaper to keep their shape. Be sure to change the newspaper regularly, as it absorbs moisture. Finally, make sure the slippers are completely dry before putting them away or putting them on.

Slipper stain removal

There are homemade solutions for removing stains from your slippers without damaging or discolouring them.

In the event of a coffee stain, you must act quickly to prevent the stain from sticking. Use a cloth or paper towel to blot up the liquid without rubbing. Then, prepare a solution of warm water and white vinegar. Soak a clean cotton cloth and dab the stain until it disappears. Rinse with clean water.
 
The same goes for a wine stain: act quickly! Soak up the liquid with a cloth. Then sprinkle a stain remover, such as  Terre de Sommières, on the stain, leave for an hour, then brush off the excess powder.

For a mud stain, on the other hand, wait until the mud has dried before cleaning. Apply a paste with water and baking soda after brushing off the excess dirt. Leave for 15 minutes, then scrub gently with a brush. Rinse and leave to air dry.

Regular maintenance

To prolong the life of your slippers, you can gently brush them with a suitable brush to restore the fur's tone. Dust them with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry them with a dry cloth. Finally, store them in a well-ventilated place.

Repairing and replacing your slippers
